With OE’s audience being the urban community from adults to youth that have never gone camping and might even fear it a little, we decided to design a checklist for what to bring for weekend trainings:


*Leave valuable items at home.

  • Something to read or keep you busy on breaks

  • 2 towels to wash and dry with

  • 1 pair spare athletic shoes, closed toe sandals, or water shoes for stream crossings and camp

  • 3 pairs socks (clean socks always worn in sleeping bag)

  • 1 swimsuit

  • 1-2 Spandex or nylon sports bra for girls

  • 1-2 pair shorts     

  • 3 pairs of long pants

  • 3 T-shirts (nylon dries faster than cotton)

  • 1 long-sleeve shirt

  • 1 baseball cap

  • Bring a small bag of toiletries for hike (sample size toiletries, lip protection, sun screen, and feminine hygiene items for girls)

  • Prescription medications if need be

 Gear Provided to Each Participant by OE (used for the trip only):

  • 1 Full size backpack

  • 1 sleeping bag

  • 1 sleeping pad

  • 1 tent for every 2-3 teens

  • 1 cup, 1 spoon, 1 bowl

  • 1 water bottle
