History 211

Week 1

This is basically how the weekly section pages will be laid out. There will be three sections to each page. The first section will provide you with general information, such as your reading assignment for the week or any information that Pennington wants me to pass on to you. The second section will give you the quiz items for that week. And the third section will tell you what your email assignment is. I will have each weekly page posted no later than Monday night, and usually as early as Saturday or Sunday morning. You'll have plenty of time to prepare for the week.

General

Make sure that you have read and fully understand both the course and section requirements. Your reading assignment for next week is Koenigsberger, Chapter 1. It shouldn't take you too long to read, so might want to get started on the next chapter as well.

Let me encourage you at the outset to keep up with the reading. This is a reading intensive course, and it will be exceedingly difficult for you to catch up if you fall behind. Try to stay on top of the reading from the very beginning. You'll be grateful later.

Quiz

No quiz this week.

Email Assignment

Tell me more about yourself. I'd like to know about your interests (such as what music you like, what movies you've seen this summer, and what books you read) and why you're taking this class (even if it's just to fulfill a requirement). You can tell me about anything that you want to, but you must tell me something about yourself..

I also want to encourage you to keep up with the weekly email assignments and to check your email regularly. This can help your overall grade in many ways. For instance, if you're shy or don't like to say much in class, email is a good way for you to show me that you've done the reading and are thinking about the material presented in this course. In addition, email is an easy way for me to keep you informed about any changes or updates that might have been made to the syllabus or to the weekly section page.
