History 211 |
Week 2 |
General
You should be finished with Chapter 1 in
Koenigsberger by the end of this week. Get started on Chapter 2 if you have
time.
Also, let me know if you're interested in a particular book or
reading and would like to lead a discussion section this semester. I'll be glad
to have one or two of you daring souls step forward and take charge for the
period. (For example, if you're in the play you might want to lead the
discussion of Mandragola.) You won't be entirely on your own, however. I
will help you prepare for the session and will tell you what I think should be
stressed. To sweeten the offer, I'll give you full credit for up to 3 quizzes,
depending on your performance.
Finally, if you come across something that interests you while searching the web (and if it is relevant to HST 211), let me know so that I can try to incorporate it into our section discussion. If I use your suggestion you won't have to take the quiz for that week and you will get full credit for it.
Quiz
I will give you a sample quiz this week so that you'll know what I expect on the quizzes and how to go about answering the IDs on them.
There will be a geography quiz which will count toward your grade. I want you to be able to identify all the regions under Roman control on this Map of the Roman Empire and the various Kingdoms of the Barbarians which were established as the Empire fell in the West.
Email Assignment
To avoid confusion about the email assignment, you may still submit a brief biography of yourself for this week. In other words, there will be only one email assignment for both weeks 1 and 2. If you have already told me about yourself you may still send me an email. Since we haven't read any of the primary sources just yet, tell me what difficulties you are having with Koenigsberger or with Pennington's lectures (or both). Do you understand what's going on? Are you confused about anything? What can I clarify for you in section this week? If you don't have anything to say, that's fine, but you can still let me know.
