History 211

Week 5

Updated Monday, 27 September.

NEW INFORMATION:

1) The date of the final exam has been changed to Monday, 18 October. See the Bulletin Board for more information.

2) The questions for the mid-term exam are now final and posted. (I got them down to six; before you had seven to prepare; I tried to make it five but could not prevail upon Pennington -- the ogre!)

3) PETER ABELARD is no longer an ID for the quiz this week. In place of him I'd like you to prepare Rollo the Viking.

4) The email assignment has also been changed.

General

We'll continue talking about the Song of Roland in section this week. Look over the study questions from last week if you haven't done that already. I won't formally assign anything in Koenigsberger for you to read, but I recommend that you keep on reading (and noting!) the textbook. You'll be responsible for everything through Chapter 4 for the mid-term exam.

I hope this week to write the lecture supplements on the Carolingian renaissance and Chansons de Geste. (They are more appropriate for this week anyway.) I'm trying to give you material that will be useful on the exam and for your papers.

Movie and Music Results. It was interesting to see what you thought was "appropriate" for this course. (I hope I got them all.)
