Week 7 |
General
Movie: The first movie in our series will be Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail (or whatever the exact title of it is). It will be shown in Grant Auditorium, on Tuesday, 12 October, at 7:30 pm. The movie is open to all. You may bring your friends. Attendance is not mandatory.
Readings: Your reading assignment for this week is Koenigsberger, Chapter 4. Remember, you are responsible for everything in the text book through Chapter 4.
Exam Prep: There will be another review session on Thursday at 3:00 pm. Room To Be Announced. Attendance Is Not Mandatory. (Since most of you will not be here next weekend I will not be holding an additional review session.) Let me stress that this is a review session; it is not a session where I tell you what to write on your exam. You must come prepared, and with questions. If you don't have questions we will not be there very long; on the other hand, I will stay as long as it takes to answer your questions. You have all the exam questions in advance and all the information that you need to answer them. I have given you a sample outline for question #6 to show you how to prepare an outline.
Here are some additional tips:
Pay attention to the questions. Answer what they ask you to answer.
Keep the general themes of this course in mind as you prepare your outlines.
Talk about what led up to the events you are discussing; the events themselves; and the contribution or significance of those events in the overall development of Medieval Europe. The best exams will discuss the general swoop of things.
Back up your assertions with examples.
Show me that you understand the material that has been presented to you, and that you have done all the reading. The best exams will draw on all the sources form this class: lectures, Koengisberger, section readings.
This exam is not impossible. We have given it in the past and people have done very well on it. All the necessary links to help you prepare for your exam are on my syllabus page. Good luck!
Miscellaneous: You can download the song that I wanted to play for you during my lecture last week. Click here for instructions.

Email Assignment
Again, there is no formal email assignment this week. If you still don't have a question or anything to say, you must at least write to tell me that. You might want to write to Pennington again.
