Minutes for Wednesday, October 16th, 2002 Meeting
 

I. Introductions (Quick)
a. Announce new Cultural Affairs Representative- Sandip Mehta
b. Academic Affairs Committee Chair-Armand Cucciniello
c. MAXPAC Representatives- Josh Diosomito and Jessica Hughes
 

II. Announcements (Missy)
a. IRSA Website is up and running (some parts still under construction). Check it out and feel free to give feedback! http://student.maxwell.syr.edu/irsa


b. New Committee to get involved in: IR Department Recruitment (This includes web page consulting, pamphlet/ information materials sent out (consulting), student recruitment visits, etc.)-  If you want to join this committee contact Missy so that we can begin a working group ASAP to help improve the Web and start planning for  students attending recruitment fairs and coordinating with the department.


c. IRSA is co-sponsoring an event with GAI/Ambassador Levitsky on November 5th. The Speaker is the former Ambassador to Malaysia and will be giving a presentation on “Indonesia at the Crossroads.” IR Grads and Undergrads** are encouraged to attend. A luncheon will also be given – and IR grads will be given priority notification.


d. If you want a business card, please go to: http://student.maxwell.syr.edu/irsa/main/business_card_info.htm to fill out the information so that we can submit it to the company that will be printing our business cards. Deadline to submit your address is: Sunday, October 27th @ midnight.

III. Updates: Committees (Committee Chair)
a. Diploma – nothing new


b. Halloween Party (Angie)- Planning committee has begun and we will need your help to make the party run smoothly.  If you are interested in helping contact Angie for more information. Otherwise mark your calendars for October 31, 2002 Party Starts at 9pm and watch your emails for more Party Information!


c. Survey (Betsey)-We will be posting and informational survey so that we can gather information for an IR student database.  The survey will be posted on the IRSA sight and we need you participation to make it a success.  I will email the IR Listserv with more details when the Survey is posted.  Survey Deadline -November 1, 2002


d. Cultural Affairs – One World & Beyond (Sandip)-First meeting for Cultural Affairs committee will be held the Wednesday October 23 at 12:30.  Please contact Sandip for more information.  There will be events like Dinner and a movie and a Pumpkin Decorating group that will be organized shortly.  If you want to help with Cultural Affairs your help is always welcome.


e. Newspapers/ online subscription price information (Jason)- If you receive a paper subscription and you would be willing to donate to when you are finished to the AV, please contact Jason.  That will help us know what publications we should buy for the masses and what electronic information would be good to share.


f. Business Card information (Jason)-DEADLINE is October 27, 2002 at Midnight, so fill out your information if you are interested.


g. Academic Affairs (Armand) If you have any concerns about the IR curriculum or your classes, be they topical focus issues or geographic issues please let Armand know.  He will be pursuing class evaluations and working to bring our concerns to the Department so we can make the IR program even better.  Your input is crucial to Armand being able to work for you.
