Q: When is the application deadline?

A: You can begin the IR Master's degree program in August or January. The deadline for admission to the program in January 2004 is November 1, 2003. For consideration for August 2004, you should have your application completed by January 8, 2004 for consideration for a Syracuse University Fellowship, and by February 1, 2004 for consideration for merit-based financial aid from the International Relations Program.

Q: What is the minimum GPA, GRE, and TOEFL for admission?

A While we do require GRE and TOEFL scores for admissions consideration, we do not establish a minimum profile in terms of GRE, TOEFL, or GPA.  Your application is examined as a whole.

Q: What are the Maxwell School’s ETS codes for the GRE and TOEFL tests?

A: The Syracuse University code for GRE score reporting is 2823.  For questions related to GRE and TOEFL testing, contact Educational Testing Service at:  http://www.ets.org/.

Q: What courses should I take to strengthen my application? Are there other requirements for admission?

A: There is a foreign language requirement for admission. You must have two years of college level foreign language training.  In some cases, there are exceptions.  Please contact the International Relations Program Office for specific questions regarding your situation.

Q: Are interviews part of the application process?

A: No, we do not require interviews as part of the application process. We welcome your visit to campus to sit in on a class, meet with professors, an IR graduate advisor, and current students.  To arrange for a visit, please contact Ms. Janis Gray at:  jgray@maxwell.syr.edu.

Q: How do I apply for fellowships?

A: Applications will be considered for fellowships if they are submitted to the Graduate Admissions office by January 8. All applications must be complete before they can be considered for fellowships. Mark the appropriate box on the application indicating that you would like to be considered for a fellowship. All fellowships awarded by the Maxwell School are merit based.

Q: Is it possible to attend classes on a part-time basis?

A: Yes. Many of our students attend classes on a part-time basis.

Q: Does the International Relations Program offer Ph.D. programs?

A: No, the International Relations Program only offers Bachelors, Masters and graduate certificate programs. The Maxwell School does, however, offer a wide range of Ph.D. program in other departments. Q: How do I find out about on-campus housing for graduate students?

A: On-campus graduate housing is offered on South Campus in the Slocum Heights Graduate and Family Housing Complex and is accessible to main campus by frequent bus service.  If you are interested in on-campus housing, please refer to:

Q: How can I request information about Masters of Arts in International Relations Program at the Maxwell School?
