Bio:
Javier E. Baez is a Ph.D Candidate in Economics
at Syracuse University, a Graduate Research
Associate in the Center for Policy Research, a consultant for the World Bank
and a Research Affiliate at the Institute for
the Study of Labor (IZA). His research
explores the effects of shocks on children's
outcomes such as infant mortality, nutrition,
morbidity and child labor as well as their
long-term impacts on health and human
capital accumulation, and labor market outcomes. Other current work seeks
to examine the intergenerational effects of
maternal schooling on childhood health,
the consequences of precautionary responses to
adult mortality,
and the nutritional impacts of
cash conditional transfers and other similar
interventions. Javier was awarded a two-year
Dissertation Fellowship in Population and
Economic Development by the Hewlett Foundation &
Population Reference Bureau to fund his current
research. Javier graduated from Universidad de
los Andes (Bogota, Colombia) with B.A. and M.A.
degrees in economics. He also holds a Masters
degree in Public Administration and Development
Economics from the Kennedy School of Government
