Biography
Michael Eriksen graduated in Spring of 2008 with a Ph.D.
in Economics at Syracuse University
and will be an Assistant Professor next year at
the University of Georgia. His research
and teaching interests are in real estate, urban economics, and
public finance.
The first part of Michael's dissertation
analyzes the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit
(LIHTC) Program, the nation's largest source of
affordable housing for low-income households.
The second part of his dissertation uses a
randomized field experiment to test the economic
rationales behind Individual Development
Accounts (IDAs) and asset development for
low-income households. His dissertation was funded in
part by the Department of Housing and Urban
Development and the John D. and Catherine T.
MacArthur Foundation. In addition to his
academic work, Michael serves as the Treasurer
for the National Consumers League, a consumer
safety, education, and advocacy 501(c)(3)
status
organization located in Washington, DC. He
received a Master's Degree in Economics from Syracuse University in
2006 and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Biology from Gonzaga
University in 2003.
